Making Friends Monday (cough cough, really it’s Monday)

This week, Friend Makin Monday is being hosted by ae filkins and there is a list of 20 questions to answer. Here goes!!!

1. Do you cook every night? Every week I plan out what I’m going to cook for the night. The reality very rarely looks like that. But, I do cook most nights

2. What kind of laundry detergent do you use & why? I think I have Shout right now. Honestly I buy the box that says it has the most loads, and I buy the HE soap because our washer wants that, and I don’t want to break another washer.

3. Do you do laundry every day or loads at a time? In theory I do laundry every day. However I find putting the clothes away tedious, so it doesn’t happen as often as I might like.

4. How often do you eat out per week? About once a week for dinner. I do use most of my spending money taking the kids out to eat, it’s hard to get errands done in a short enough amount of time before they want to eat again.

5. Where do you usually eat out? Wherever I have a coupon to. Yes, I am cheap like that! {smile}

6. What is your favorite retail store? hmmmm….. Probably Wal-Mart and Target, those are where I go most often. Now if you could include craft stores…… Then I’d have to say Joann’s, especially since a new one opened within 2 miles of me.

7. What’s your favorite thing to drink? Dr Pepper. It’s always a sad time when we’re traveling and we leave the South where Dr Pepper is so dominant. When we were on our honeymoon in London, my brand new husband was nice enough to find a store that had Dr Pepper and he bought a 12 pack for me.

8. Do you take vitamins? What kind? I really should, I’m so bad at eating veggies, but no I don’t.

9. What percentage of the household chores to you do? Not as much as I should, answering these questions is my current method of putting off cleaning. Actually I’m being distracted from finishing up a dress I’m making for me. But, I do the lion’s share of the chorse since I’m at home “all day.” Notice that’s in quotes, really who’s home all day as a stay at home Mom?

10. Do your children do chores? {Or will they, did they, etc} Yes, right now the 2 chores they get paid for are to clean their room and to make their bed. They also are expected to help keep the downstairs clean, unload the dishwasher, set the table, and help with mopping and sweeping. I’ve often posted pictures of the evil slavedriver Mom that I am.

11. Do you go to church? Yes

12. Do you have a housework schedule? I make schedules, and then I don’t stick to them.

13. Do you keep a working budget? Yes, more or less. We listen to Dave Ramsey, and pay cash for most things. So if we want to eat out I have to have cash in the eating out wallet. I also have cash for groceries, and cash for me to spend during the week. This way we don’t go into debt. We are very blessed to be COMPLETELY debt free.

14. What do you do at night as a family? That kind of depends on the night. Monday nights we do some kind of family thing, we do a Bible study and then we’ll watch a movie together or play games or something. After the kids go to bed my husband and I often play World of Warcraft together (yes we are gaming geeks).

15. How do you prepare yourself for a new week? I write a meal plan and look over what I need for school. I mostly do grocery shopping on Mondays and write most of my posts then, except for the random post I come up with on the fly like this one.

16. What do your mornings look like? I drag myself out of bed and then grunt at people for an hour or so as I check emails and fiddle around on the computer. While I do that the kids watch TV and eat breakfast. It’s how I survive.

17. What time do you get up in the mornings? Somewhere between 7 and 8.

18. What time do you go to bed at night? Anywhere between 10 and midnight. I’m a night owl.

19. How do you manage all of the paperwork that floods into your household? {bills, school work, magazines, ads, etc} I let it pile up until it threatens to fall over and kill me. Then I threaten it, since it didn’t listen to my threats I separate it into lots of different piles that I foist off on Jeff. Then he grumbles about the sudden pile of stuff that’s appeared on his office chair, and why aren’t we more organized.
Ummm….. Truthfully, I sort it into different piles when I get the mail. Bills and such stuff I put on Jeff’s office chair. Magazines, catalogs, and the rest I sort through and trash or keep. Catalogs usually get kept and I flip through them and think about ordering stuff, but never actually do, until the catalog gets horribly ripped up and then I throw it away.

20. How do you keep your household organized? {calendars, charts, etc} I have a big dry erase calendar hanging in the kitchen. It has everything we’re doing for a month, then underneath it is an annual calendar, on that I put anything that doesn’t fit within that month. I also occasionally remember to put thing in my Iphone to remind me. That and I email myself stuff to remember. Like mother like daughter, my Mom does the same thing.

That’s my 20 questions, now I’m off to start cooking dinner, or at least getting it all put together to cook later.

All ’bout me

Well, Carissa over at 1+1+1=1 is hosting an “All About Me” linky, and K over at Orange Juice (I always get paranoid about misspelling your name, isn’t that sad?) gave me the Honest Scrap award (I had my choice, and that amused me most). So, I’m combinging these into the same post and telling you a little more about me. Here goes:

My name is: Ticia

I have: 3 kids, twin boys who are 4, and a little girl who is 2. They are very energetic. And seem to of forgotten what nap means this week. Sigh

I am: a wife, a mother, a daughter, a bookworm, a seamstress (technically that’s not acurate, but I hate the term sewer), a crafter, and probably many more things

The name of my blog is: Adventures in Mommydom, every now and then I think of sarcastically renaming it The Adventures of SuperMommy…… But I think people might take me seriously.

I blog about: my life, which includes: homeschooling, sewing, random crafts, things I find funny or insightful

I have been reading at 1+1+1=1: about a year

This is my first time commenting on 1+1+1=1: no, but I don’t tend to comment unless there’s not too many comments, or I have something useful to say. I hate to be repetitive of everyone else

My favorite Bible verse: this changes a lot, I usually go back to Romans 8:28, which of course I’ve now completely blanked on

I participate in Tot School: sometimes….. I’m running into that Princess is doing more of preschool and not Tot School activities, so I haven’t been posting there as much.

And here’s 10 more random facts about me:

1. I learned to sew in 4-H. I am immensly greatful for my teacher, and love that she did this for me.

2. I am very messy by nature. I have a tendency to start a project and not finish it. I am working hard to combat this by trying to organize stuff. This is slowly happening. Very slowly. I also have 3 kids who are undoing all my organizing.

3. To go with being messy I am a pack rat. I’m trying to get rid of stuff so my house can look clean. I’m fighting my tendency to “keep it just in case I need it.” Sigh…..

4. I used to read about one Star Trek novel a day in high school. As you can guess I reread a lot of books.

5. I love fantasy novels. I also love the young adult fantasy novels, because they don’t feel the need to show they’re “adult” by adding in random sex scenes.

6. I have 5 bookshelves full of books. Those are just my books. My husband has another 5. I’m going to have to start double packing my books soon.

7. If my boys had their way they would spend their whole lives wearing the same two shirts with their capes on them. I had to force the shirts off last week with tears. Real tears.

8. Princess loves shoes. She also loves to randomly leave her shoes around the house. I don’t love this.

9. I like to play silly worthless timewaster games on Facebook. It’s really silly.

10. I play World of Warcraft with a bunch of my husband’s college friends. I have a level 80 night elf druid. My boys love to sit on my lap and watch me play. It’s kind of funny. This of course makes me a bad Mom, because they are watching violence.

Go see more great intro posts over at Carissa’s blog.

10 Things You May Not Know About Me

I got tagged over at Orange Juice for this, and was having fun thinking of the different 10 things I could put in. I’m going to delay post this to come out while we’re out of town, that way it doesn’t look like I’ve completely forgotten about my blog.

1. I’m left-handed and during middle school I went through a phase where I wanted to know everything about being lefthanded. Interestingly enough none of my kids seem to be left handed

2. I hate being called mama. My kids don’t call me that, the only people who do are random waiters and stuff and my Mom in front of my kids. It drives me NUTS! (this is a not so subtle hint Mom, STOP!)

3. I tend to think everyone can do what I do. So, when I run into someone who sews but can’t freehand a pattern to put a cat applique on I’m confused. I also tend to think everyone knows what I do, this can lead to confusing conversations sometimes.

4. I’m a huge Star Trek fan. Once upon a time I knew the names of all the original series episodes, and the first 5 seasons of Next Gen. For some reason I never really learned the names of the last 2 seasons or Deep Space 9 episodes, even though DS9 is my favorite series.

5. I drink water and Dr. Pepper like a fish. My husband thinks I’m 99% liquid.

6. My thumbs are double jointed

7. When I’m pregnant about the only thing I can keep down for the first trimester is salsa and chips. There’s a good chance my kids are like 70% salsa and chips, the other remaining percentage is probably breakfast shakes.

8. I don’t like Diego. The songs get stuck in my head with little provocation, and nobody randomly throws spanish words into their conversation like that. HOwever 2 if of my kids absolutely love Diego and would watch it all the time if they could.

9. I love to eat cookie dough. When we go to Papa Murphy’s I’ll get a big tub of their cookie dough and spend the next week eating it. Not a single cookie will be made.

10. I’m a weird combination of procrastinator and get things done. If I’m not doing something I”m a little antsy and distracting people. Oh, and I’m probably ADD or ADHD to some extent. Or that’s what several people have told me.

Not, who to tag…….

1. Mama Jenn
2. Cheerios Underfoot
3. Snail’s Trail

Summer Picnic

It’s funny. I really want to participate in this picnic post, but I am just struggling coming up with something interesting to say. But, I’ll tell you a little about my family.

These are my “angels.” This is probably somewhat close to their personalities

Superman is on the left (thank you Mom for pointing out I had it backwards). He’s most likely to notice if something isn’t fair or done right. He’s my perfectionist. He is currently obsessed with Diego, a fad I’m not thrilled with, but I admit most of my dislike of Diego has more to do with my pet pieves than any real reason.

Princess is in the middle. That’s how she likes it. If she had her way she’d be in the middle of everything. She does not understand she is younger. In her mind she is 4 also, and can do anything her brothers do. She is also incredibly stubborn, and any time I try to get her to pose for a picture she sticks her tongue out. Every dress she’s modeled for me has a picture of her tongue sticking out….

Batman is on the left, and he’s the ring leader. While Princess is the chief instigator of trouble, he’s most likely to be leading everyone in. He tells everyone what to do, and doesn’t understand that he’s not Mom or Dad. It can be very entertaining.

Me, I’m Ticia. The Pucktricks name you see on all my comments comes from the play Midsummer Night’s Dream, one of the main characters is a fairy named Puck. He’s a troublemaker, and I have a bit of a repuation for that. I used to teach elementary school and am now a much happier and healthier stay at home Mom. I have more hobbies than I have time in the day. That’s why all the pictures you see on the blog are close-ups, that way you don’t see the clutter so much. I love to sew, scrapbook, draw, write, embroider…… Ummm….. Pretty much every craft I’ve tried I’ve enjoyed, I just try not to do it all because then our poor house would be even messier.

My husband is Jeff. He’s a computer programmer, and anyone who knows about computers laughs at my attempts to explain his job, so I’ll leave it at that. He shares many of my interests. He loves to read, in particular sci-fi and fantasy books. We play World of Warcraft together on the computer, it’s a great way to keep in touch with friends out of town. We play together online and talk while we play. From time to time he even goes swing dancing with me!

I’m making a more official blog

I’ve been posting off and on over at Myspace, more off than on. And I figure here I’ll not just post what’s up with my life, but try and also write about the cool ideas I came up with or crafts we’re doing, because I love to read other blogs that do that, so now I’m going to try it out. We’ll see if I actually do this…….
