Jump Start Wii

I started a mini-review back when we first got it, and I was sick as a dog then, so I couldn’t play.

Now, I’ve had a chance to play it.  The kids still love it and have added it into the cycle of games they request.

My boys favorite games on this is still the races.  They alternate between requesting the bike races and the flying ones.  I personally think the skiing is fun.

What kind of workout is this?

Mainly upper body.  It’s designed so most of the games can be used without the balance board.  And don’t be fooled it will give you a decent workout for a run of the mill workout (I’m not talking athlete in training for competition).  But, my arms and shoulders were quite sore after playing the different games for about 20 or 30 minutes.

What did I like?

020 I like the look of it, the animation style is fun and kind of cartoony.  The backgrounds you can choose from are fun.  I thought it was rather fun to be underwater in Atlantis, and the kids love the fact that some of the backgrounds are straight from their Jump Start game on computer.

I love that I can actually play the balance game, it’s kind of like the soccer game from the Wii balance board, but I can actually play it, unlike on that one where all I do is get in the head by cleats.

I love the variety of games, and the fact that when I play volleyball on this I won’t get hit in the face like in real volleyball.

What did I dislike?

This is a general problem I have with some Wii games, so not specific to this game.  Sometimes the controller is not fine tuned enough, and the twitch reflexes are a little too fine, so it’s hard to point to the game to start it.

I wish there were a smoother way of switching between people (and this also is a problem with Wii games in general).

So, overall, I have to give this game a big thumbs up.

This is in stores now and is available for $29.99
It is rated E for Comic Mischief

  1. Interesting. I bought it for the kids, and at the same time picked up Wii Fit (to get the balance board). They play Wii Fit, but the JumpStart game went straight to the shelf after the first 20 minutes of play – even though they like the online JumpStart game.

Maybe, I'll pull it out, and try it myself. I wouldn't mind playing soccer without getting hit with cleats 🙂

  2. I can't wait to get that game. I actually looked at it the other day while I was at Target, but I was getting diapers and formula and to add $30 on top of that would have sent a chill down my spine. So, I thought I'd wait for another shopping trip that didn't include such high priced items. Do you think an almost 4 year old could play? She has a hard time with the Wii fit but has recently gotten really good at computer games. I haven't let her play the Wii fit in a while because we both get so frustrated with eachother…lol.

  3. I've had the same problem with the wii controller, although at least some of the time it's because the battery power is low.

Does this game have an educational component (other than fitness)?

  4. Thanks for that, I have been hearing so much about it lately.

Won't it be wonderful when the new gaming machines come out without hand held controllers…or maybe xbox has already released their's in the states?

My 6 year old still struggles with the WII controls somewhat.
