Surgery went great

We’re home from the hospital, and aside from everyone being tired and somewhat grumpy it all went well.

Surgery was scheduled for 7:30 this morning, and we had to be there at 6:00, which meant to make sure we made it to the hospital on time we had to get up at 4:30.  That was not fun.

She did great waiting for the doctors, and was mostly patient.  Every time she started to think about being thirsty or hungry she was ready to go home, but was usually easily distracted.

The surgery was less than an hour, we spent longer waiting to start it and talking to all of the various doctors, nurses, and what have you than we did waiting.

She came out of it much better than Superman did.  It also seemed like this hospital did better at taping the IV down, I don’t know if that’s because we warned them of her brother’s reaction or because that’s their procedure.  It was taped to her arm in about 4 different places and her arm was taped to a board.

She really did not like her casts for the first several hours after waking up, and was desperate to get them off. That has settled down to occasionally poking at them from time to time.

About 11:00 she wanted to see her brothers and they came by for a while.  They very excitedly gave her a movie to watch and a Batman toy.  Then they proceeded to tell her “God wants us to share.”  That part just cracked us up.  But, she happily ignored them and played with her new Batman guys.

So, the big prayers now are:

1.  That she can figure out how to walk in these casts.  As you can see from the picture, they’re almost up to her knees.  So far she’s successfully crawled about a yard.  Maybe.  She’s gotten pretty good at scooting around on her bottom.

2.  She still is trying to convince us to take her cast off from time to time.  I’m hoping this will ease with time, but could definitely use prayers in this area.

Thank you to everyone who has prayed for us so far today.  We felt those prayers as we sat at the hospital and waited for news.

  1. So so glad things went well! I can imagine how Crumpet would feel about the casts and the difficulty walking, so I'll hope that she adapts quickly and you don't suffer too much!

  2. I'm so glad that the surgery went well. I hope she's able to get used to the casts quickly. I'm sure she'll adapt. How long will she have to keep them on?

  3. Oh my, I can't believe I missed this! I am so happy to hear everything went smoothly! What a brave little girl! Prayers for lots of patience and strength for everyone – included mama! And of course for a super speedy recovery! hugs!

  4. I am glad everything went well. I hope she is ok in the casts and that the time in them passes quickly for all of you!

The comment about God wants us to share is hilarious!!

I will keep y'all in my prayers.

  5. Poor little thing! If I know little girls, she'll adjust quick. I'm looking at a ride-on truck, wondering how she'd do with it, if she had some non-skid socks on… 🙂 Glad the surgery went well!!

  6. What did she have surgery for? I'm so glad she came out of surgery and everything went well! It must be so hard to have casts on, poor thing.
I hope she can get them off quickly or at least get used to them quickly!
